Hello Potential Customer/Partner/Manufacturer,

I want to personally thank you for taking time to learn more about Combustion Parts, Inc. (CPI) and give you insight into how we do business and what has made us successful.

When I started working in the gas turbine industry in 1999, I was struck by the power wielded by the OEMs over their manufacturers and their customers.  Loyal OEM manufacturers were losing their share of production to slightly lower cost non-US manufacturers.  The OEMs were acting in the interest of their shareholders, but not their other stakeholders.  The loyal manufacturers were still being told they could not sell gas turbine parts to anyone other than the OEM.  Likewise, customers were being charged outrageous prices for OEM replacement parts and had no reliable, quality after-market option.

Thus, CPI was founded in 2000 to help US suppliers diversify their customer base beyond the OEM and give customers a reliable and valuable alternative.

OUR VISION

Become the default after-market provider of transition pieces and liners by delivering consistently high quality products and dependable delivery at competitive prices.

Through the 1st quarter 2008, CPI will have delivered over 1,000 transition pieces and liners to customers all over the world with zero fit-up or quality issues.  We have accomplished this goal by serving our customers very differently than the OEMs.  We gave them what they asked for, not just what we wanted to give them.

HOW WE DO IT

Firstly, we provide OEM equivalent parts:
CPI fabricates transition pieces, liners, and other combustion hardware to our own drawings and specifications in our own tooling.  CPI reverse engineers these designs from original OEM hardware, thus our parts are designed and manufactured to be replicas of the OEM parts.

Secondly, CPI gives our customers both quality AND value:
All parts are procured exclusively from experienced US suppliers of OEM combustion hardware.  These highly skilled manufacturing facilities are staffed with years of power generation parts expertise. Their quality systems meet the most stringent certification requirements.  Thus, CPI provides an OEM level of quality at an after-market price.

Thirdly, CPI offers short lead times:
We stock raw material and detail components.  Thus, an assembly can quickly be tailored to a customer’s unique requirements or built to CPI’s standard designs.  Typical lead times for capital spares assemblies are 12 to 14 weeks.  Compression of lead times can be accomplished on an expedited basis.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Today, CPI is still a small business that leverages the strengths and infrastructure of our large manufacturers.

  • Be nimble, flexible, and responsive to customer needs.
  • Build strong, loyal relationships with both customers and suppliers.
  • Place fairness and integrity at a higher priority than immediate profitability.
  • Leverage a network of relationships for a small company to act like a large one.
  • Continue to focus on what we’re good at and do not grow just for “growth’s sake”.

I am proud that we have sold parts to the largest after-market parts and service providers, as well as a number of US utilities.

  • Power Systems Manufacturing
  • Wood Group
  • Masaood John Brown/MJB International
  • Chromalloy HIT
  • Keyspan Corporation
  • Progress Energy
  • North American Energy Services
  • PSEG Power
  • Western Farmers Electric Cooperative
